This Privacy Policy describes how Jurnul (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use jurnul.io and the Jurnul application (collectively, the “Service”). Jurnul is operated from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Information We Collect

Account Information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and name through our authentication provider (Clerk). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google.

Content You Create. Investment theses, notes, position data (tickers, quantities, cost basis), and any other content you input into the Service.

Technical Information. We automatically collect information about your device and how you use the Service, including IP address, browser type, operating system, referral source, pages viewed, and timestamps. This is used for security, performance monitoring, and improving the Service.

Cookies and Similar Technologies. We use cookies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and understand usage patterns. Authentication cookies are set by Clerk. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

We do not knowingly collect financial account credentials, social security numbers, or other sensitive identifiers.

How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and operate the Service
  • Authenticate your account and maintain your session
  • Store and display your content (theses, notes, positions)
  • Communicate with you about the Service, including security and product updates
  • Monitor and analyze usage to improve performance and features
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues and security threats
  • Comply with legal obligations

Third-Party Services and Subprocessors

We use the following third-party services to operate Jurnul. Each has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data:

  • Clerk (authentication)
  • Vercel (hosting and infrastructure)
  • Neon (database)
  • Sentry (error monitoring)
  • Google (OAuth sign-in)
  • Yahoo Finance(stock price data) — receives only ticker symbols, no personal information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

Data Retention

We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your content within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or necessary for legitimate business purposes (e.g., fraud prevention, dispute resolution).

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access— request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction— request correction of inaccurate information
  • Deletion— request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Portability— request your content in a machine-readable format
  • Withdrawal of consent — withdraw consent for processing where applicable

If you are located in the European Economic Area, UK, or Switzerland, you have rights under GDPR. If you are located in California, you have rights under the CCPA. If you are in Canada, your rights are protected under PIPEDA.

Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), encrypted database storage, and access controls. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

International Transfers

Jurnul is operated from Canada, with infrastructure provided by Vercel and Neon, which may store data in the United States or other regions. By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to these jurisdictions.

Children's Privacy

Jurnul is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
